Ortaire de Coupigny
We do not take on many new artists here but when Ortaire contacted us about his tins of fish, we were hooked straight away! Our only non-UK artist, Ortaire lives and works in France.
The process for making these unusual sculptures is fascinating. Ortaire buys the fish from his local fish market, then makes moulds and casts them in plaster of Paris. Then comes the decoration, with a combination of materials, Ortaire manages to make each cast look life-like and fabulous. He then places the subjects in the bought fish tins and pours in the resin to cover.
He has exhibited work at the Royal Academy, London and now has galleries selling his fish in France, Holland, Italy and Switzerland. Since studying fine art at Cherbourg, Normandy, Ortaire has settled in the Bretagne area. He now lives near the sea, with his wife and two children.
These lovely tins all come with a fixing on the back so they can be hung on the wall (sometimes it's the ring pull from the tin).
Please note post and packing is £15 and is added when you check out.
